Effect of heating conditions on the stability of titanium shells in the composition of brazed conical sections

Pages 990-992 | Published online: 01 Aug 2013

Abstract

The causes of buckling of thin-wall titanium shells in brazed conical sections are investigated. Calculations are carried out to determine the compressive force acting on the shell in conditions of non-uniform heat, and the critical force at which the shell looses its stability and buckles. The adequacy of the calculations and of the conditions under which buckling takes place in service are determined. Algorithms for mathematical description of the heating of sections without buckling are presented.
