Apprehension to engagement in the classroom: perceptions of Black males in the community college

Wood, J. L. (2014) Apprehension to engagement in the classroom: perceptions of Black males in the community college. International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, 27(6), pp. 785–800. http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/09518398.2014.901575

When the above article was first published online, it was not the final revised version. This has now been corrected in both the print and online versions. Paragraphs were added to the introductory section, “Relevant literature”, “Findings”, “Towards an understanding of disengagement”, “Student reactions to classroom apprehension” and “Discussion”, and a number of new references were added. “Possible causes of disengagement” was added as a sub-heading. More details were added on the types of data gathered. References to “professors” were changed to “faculty”. References to the “approach-me-first” stance were changed to an “approach me first and prove yourself first” stance.

In addition, as a result of these changes, the pagination changed to 785–803 and that of the following article by Brian Sweeney, “Party animals or responsible men: social class, race, and masculinity on campus”, changed from 801–818 to 804–821.
