Notes
1. Used frequently by educators and students alike at Prepatoria Altavista, the term autogestión refers to ‘the autonomous and free process of creation and negotiation of pedagogical methods and curriculum by and within the educational community–including both teachers and students–and according to their own interests’ (13). The term assumed unique and specific meaning in Cervantes-Soon’s work. As applied to the young women in Juârez Girls Rising, she defines autogestión as ‘the process of self-authorship of one’s politicized identity and self-government, which involves the shaping of one’s personal life as part of a collective’ (13).
