The book review by Dittmar Schorkowitz published in Revolutionary Russia, Vol 22, No. 2, December 2009, pp. 226–228 contained a number of errors.
Taylor and Francis wish to apologise to the author in full for these errors and publish the corrected paragraphs as follows:
p.227, the corrected paragraph should read:
This development permits comparative analysis, for example with the Tatars of Russia, who were likewise perceived by St Petersburg reformers as a springboard for their ambitious projects to transform the often independent nomads of Central Asia and Siberia into true subjects of the state – into taxpayers and producers of an agricultural surplus.
p.228, the corrected paragraph should read:
Since the publication under review focuses on language policy and the Buryat need for education and writing system reforms, other linked fields of transformation have been largely neglected (for example, the economic transformation of the nomads, national self‐rule and indigenous legal systems, Orthodox missionary zeal and Buddhist resistance, national elites between subordination and integration and so on).
In addition to the above a typographical error exists on p.235. In the second paragraph ‘nneteenth’ should read ‘nineteenth’.
