Notes

Darius Rejali, “Review Essays: ‘American Torture Debates’,” Human Rights Review 9, no. 3 (2008): 393–400.

As Allhoff points out, his conclusion is in line with the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling in Ireland v. United Kingdom (1978). It is more the use of evidence in reaching this conclusion that this reviewer is drawing attention to.

This chapter was adapted for a recent article in this journal; see Fritz Allhoff, “Empirical Objections to Torture: A Critical Reply,” Terrorism and Political Violence 26, no. 4 (2014): 621–649.
