Summary
Caesium-137 appeared rapidly in the foetus after oral administration to the dam, reaching equilibrium with maternal blood in approximately 16 hours. The percentage dose per gram of foetal tissue appeared to be independent of age or weight of the foetus. The general pattern of distribution was the same in the foetuses as in the dam; however, the accumulating ability of foetal tissues was less. The 137Cs/K ratio was greater in the dam than in the foetus.
