Summary

Chromosome aberration rates were determined among cultured leukocytes taken from swine immediately after their exposure to 100, 200, 300, or 400 R of gamma-radiation and from samples of their blood simultaneously exposed in vitro to like doses. The higher rates obtained from in vitro samples seemed in line with the expected influence of body-shielding on in vivo cells. A pronounced variation among individual animals was obvious, especially at the higher doses. Coefficients for single-break aberration induction were within the range of those reported for human cells, whereas rings and dicentrics were somewhat lower than those for man.
