Abstract

An analytical scheme for determining the speciation of aluminium in natural waters is described. The method is based on sizing by filtration and measurement of labile forms by the catechol violet spectrophotometric method in 0.1 μm unacidified filtrates. All methodology is rigorously evaluated and the methods, demonstrated as being simple, generally had good precision and were free from interference. The scheme is suitable for effective monitoring of environmentally significant aluminium species including labile aluminium in natural waters.
