Abstract
Sampling of air pollutants according to wind direction permits the acquisition of useful information, not attainable with non‐directional sampling, in relation with the sources responsible for pollutant emission. This paper describes a simple system, using a commercially available and inexpensive wind sensor ‐ microcomputer package, which, without any hardware modifications, allows the sampling of air masses arising from pre‐specified wind sectors only. Advanced applications of directional sampling in receptor modelling studies are discussed.
