A summary of recommendations for the management of opioid dependence: the quality assurance in the treatment of drug dependence project

Abstract

This report presents outlines for approaches to intervening with opioid-dependent individuals. These recommendations are based on a review of the extant treatment-outcome literature, a survey of treatment practices used in Australia, and the views of a panel of experts. Recommendations for appropriate treatment goals, assessment, detoxification and intervention are made.
