Since 1996, Maoist rebels have been engaged in a ‘people’s war’ to oust Nepal’s royal dynasty. The movement is particularly strong in the western regions of the country.

The first project received US$150,000 from the UNDP. Funding for the second phase is pending, but the work continues through the ‘practice of commitment’ whereby people work through their own networks.

DACCs are distinct from the District Development Committees (DDCs) mentioned earlier in the text, but the DDC Chairperson also chairs the DACC.
