Tony Vaux

Tony Vaux is the founding director of Humanitarian Initiatives, an organisation which promotes exchange on conflict-related issues among practitioners. As an independent consultant, he has worked most recently for DFID, UNDP, and Swiss Development Cooperation; and in 2005 led a UK Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) team evaluating relief assistance for those affected by the Asian tsunami. He worked with Oxfam GB for 27 years, during which time he was responsible for its work in West India (1976–1980) and in East India and Bhutan (1982–1984), and for coordinating its emergency response department (1984–1994). From 1994 to 1999, he managed OGB's programmes in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union.
