Ombudsman Section

Housing Allocation, Homelessness, Special Reports and the Ombudsmen

By Richard Kirkham

Pages 201-210 | Published online: 30 Jan 2007

Notes

1. This was the first, and probably the last, special report ever to be produced by the LGOW. The post has now been integrated into the office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.

2. E.g. see Harrow LBC v Qazi [2003] UKHL 43; [2003] 3 WLR 792.

3. The sixth special report, Memorial Safety in Local Authority Cemeteries, was issued in conjunction with the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.

4. In the case of the Parliamentary Ombudsman a report is sent to the MP who submitted the complaint.

5. These are now available on the various ombudsman websites.

6. To a more limited degree the same situation will apply to the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.

7. In Scotland and Wales the position has now changed somewhat with the amalgamation of the different sector ombudsmen into one post.

8. Although there is regular debate of the merits of unifying the office with the Health Services Ombudsman and the Parliamentary Ombudsman, see Elliot (Citation2006).
