2 Throughout this piece we will use the terms ‘sexual’ and ‘sexuate’ as Irigaray has used them at different points throughout her work. This distinction is an important one for Irigaray and one that she has insisted on in part as a way to deal with criticism that would conflate her use of the ‘sexual’ in sexual difference with sexuality.
