Thesis title: Human Rights Approach to Disability within the Malaysian Legal, Policy and Institutional Frameworks

University awarding degree: International Islamic University Malaysia

Degree awarded and year: PhD, 2018

This thesis analyses the principle of human rights approach to disability within the Malaysian legal, policy and institutional frameworks. It involves doctrinal and non-doctrinal legal analysis, which includes library-based research and interviews with relevant key persons within the disability sector in Malaysia. The findings show there is inadequate protection of rights to people with disabilities in Malaysia due to insufficient legal protection, lack of action-oriented policy and inadequacy of institutional frameworks that govern the affairs related to disabled people. Finally, specific recommendations have been provided to improve the rights and situation of people with disabilities in Malaysia.
