INFILTRATION OF COHESIVE WASH MATERIAL AND BED MATERIAL TRANSPORT IN AN ALLUVIAL CHANNEL

ABSTRACT

Extensive experiments were performed to study the effect of different equilibrium concentrations of cohesive wash load on the transport of uniform and nonuniform sediments through a loose bed channel. The experiments were conducted under different hydraulic conditions in a 30 m long, 0.204 m wide and 0.5 m deep recirculating tilting flume. The bed materials used in the study consist of two different sediments having uniform sizes distributions and one no uniform sediment. The cohesive wash load used is fine clay having size of 0.0039 mm. Preliminary results obtained on variation of bed load transport in the presence of cohesive wash load and infiltration characteristics of cohesive wash material in the bed layer are presented in this paper.
