Metric based reusability analysis of software systems

Abstract

Metric suite is the most discussed term in the software community, when there is a need of quantization of quality to evaluate a software system. Software quality can be estimated by analyzing the key quality attributes of the software system. For a very long time in literature, quality in software products has been deliberately emphasized. But quality can be controlled by making it quantifiable, i.e. by measuring it. Reusability is an influential aspect to enhance the productivity and quality of software systems. Reusability is one of the core software development process. As the technological improvement in the programming languages is done, the scope and awareness to the reusability is increased. Reusability provides an easy form of software development by utilizing existing software projects or components. Toward this goal our previous work has presented a reusability framework for migration of object-oriented system to component-based system and defined a suite of four metrics to assess the reusability. In this paper, we work towards assessing the reusability aspect of these metrics for individual component collected from reputed repositories.
