Lauren Warnecke

LAUREN WARNECKE is the dance critic for the Chicago Tribune, and editor/senior writer at See Chicago Dance. She has bylines in Chicago Magazine, Milwaukee Magazine, St. Louis Magazine, Dance Magazine, and Pointe. Previously, she contributed to the Windy City Times, Dance Advantage, and 4dancers. In 2015, Lauren completed a five-week residency programme in Dublin, Ireland to interrogate aesthetic competence in concert dance across cultures. She presented this work at the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, the National Dance Education Organization, and the Midwest Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium. From 2017-18, Lauren completed a low-residency dance writing lab at the National Center for Choreography in Akron, Ohio. In 2018-19, she was a writer-in-residence for the Bates Dance Festival, and facilitated a critical writing intensive with Clare Craighead at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience in 2018. In 2020, Lauren will lead a dance writing fellowship organised by See Chicago Dance. She is currently commissioned to write the introduction for an anthology on women choreographers to be published by the University of Akron Press. Holding degrees in dance and kinesiology, Lauren is also an adjunct instructor of dance and exercise science at Loyola University Chicago. Email: [email protected]
