Abstract

Executives manage with playing different managerial roles and using different media. Those differences may further predict the usage of EIS (Executive Information Systems). This study explores the relationships between managerial roles, media usage, and EIS usage. Surveying 139 project leaders, thi: paper reveals that the current EIS only fulfill the requirements of the decision role. Informational and interpersonal roles use more traditional oral and written media. In addition, the most useful media are meeting related document such as meeting records, memos, e.t.c. However, current services that the EIS mainly provide are data-centric rather than document-centric. As a result, the findings suggest the EIS should be developed as executive support systems (ESS), executive group support system (EGSS), and executive document management systems (EDMS) to fulfill the requirements of tree managerial roles and then make a successful EIS.
