As already announced in the last issue of volume 47 (2011), we are continuing the reprint series of ‘Lost Papers’ with the 4th collection.
This issue includes two more articles which were published originally in the ZfI-Mitteilungen – an institutional journal of the former Central Institute for Isotope and Radiation Research, Leipzig – in issues no. 143 (1988) and no. 150 (1989).
Again, we come back to investigations performed by scientists of the Central Institute for Isotope and Radiation Research during the East German Antarctic expeditions. Here, the authors P. Junghans and his group studied the human metabolism under the stress of living conditions during the Antarctic wintering expedition 1984/1985. They investigated the protein and energy metabolisms in six members of the expedition group. The investigations were carried out at the beginning of the expedition (May), during the polar night (July) and during the polar day (December).
The second paper aims at the same topic of metabolic studies in man, but is dealing with tracer kinetics and metabolic models in medical research. The article by P. Junghans et al. gives a survey of methods applied to the interpretation and evaluation of tracer kinetic data based on modified models of Sprinson and Rittenberg.
A further collection of ‘Lost Papers’ will follow in the next issue of volume 48 (2012).
