ABSTRACT

The anti-aging performance/durability of an asphalt mixture is an important technical performance indicator of asphalt pavement. Although hybrid-modified asphalt mixtures have better high- and low-temperature performances than other asphalt mixtures, the durability of hybrid-modified asphalt mixtures has received little attention. Therefore, the influencing factors affecting the durability of an asphalt mixture are investigated in this study and the changes in the mechanical performance of an aged hybrid-modified asphalt mixture as a result of changes in the influencing factors are determined. The results show that the durability is highest for the 4% styrene butadiene styrene (SBS)/15% rubber powder mixture followed by the 4% SBS/3% styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) mixture and the 4% SBR/15% rubber powder mixture. The grey relational grade of the influencing factors shows that the aggregate gradation and aging temperature are the dominant factors affecting the durability of the hybrid-modified asphalt mixture whereas the influences of the asphalt modifications and the aging time are relatively small. The findings have theoretical and practical value for modifying the mechanical performance of asphalt pavement.
