ABSTRACT
This article introduces a Special Issue to mark thirty years of Labour and Industry: a Journal of the Social and Economic Relations of Work. It briefly contextualises and summarises the invited articles that comprise the Special Issue, four of which are reflections by the author(s) on developments since the publication of their earlier landmark paper by the Journal.

Jim Arrowsmith
Jim Arrowsmith is Professor in the School of Management, Massey University. His teaching and research interests include comparative industrial relations, employee engagement, and flexible pay and working time systems, and he has published widely in leading journals in these areas. He is also co-editor of The Transformation of Employment Relations in Europe (Routledge, 2013) and The Big Issues in Employment: HR Management and Employment Relations in New Zealand (CCH, 2013). Jim has acted as a consultant for government agencies, trade unions and the ILO. He is also co-director with Professor Jane Parker of MPOWER – the Massey People, Organisations, Work and Employment Research group.
