Quote from the film The Tomorrow War (2021).

Ben Little and Alison Winch point out that there are two distinct approaches to the concept of generation: one addressing its biological or familial dimensions, and the other in which it is viewed as a ‘social and historical term’ with both conservative and radical connotations: Little and Winch (Citation2017), p 131.

I refer here to intergenerational care within and between members of the human community.

I refer here to care on the part of members of the human community for current and future generations of nonhuman, or more-than-human species; in particular, those species facing extinction.

Justice Bromberg’s focus was upon the culpability of today’s adult generation. While there is no doubt that earlier generations have contributed to the rise in global greenhouse gas emissions, today’s adults are the first generation to do so in full knowledge of the relationship between their acts and omissions and the looming climate catastrophe. Furthermore, the contribution of today’s adults of the Global North to global greenhouse gas emissions far exceeds that of earlier generations.
