Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Orthogonally-Displaced Pressure Dam Bearings

Pages 201-206 | Published online: 25 Mar 2008

Abstract

An orthogonally-displaced pressure dam bearing is obtained by horizontally displacing the two halves of an elliptical pressure dam bearing. This bearing is more stable than the other pressure dam and fixed geometry bearings. This paper describes the static characteristics such as film pressures, oil flow, friction, etc., and dynamic characteristics, namely spring and damping coefficients and the stability threshold speed of this bearing supporting both rigid and flexible rotors.
