KF-Al₂O₃ as a Base Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Synthesis of 2-Substituted Benzoxazoles and Benzothiazoles under Mild Reaction Conditions at Room Temperature

Abstract

A convenient synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles from the reaction o-aminophenol or o-aminothiophenol with acyl chlorides or acid anhydrides has been accomplished. The various carboxylic acid derivatives were reacted with o-aminophenol or o-aminothiophenol in the presence of KF-Al₂O₃ as a base heterogeneous catalyst to form correspondence benzothiazoles and benzoxazoles in high yields, and the catalyst showed a good recyclability.
