Abstract

The aim of this research is to assess the capability of numerical simulation for describing plume flows generated by a thermal source in a ventilated room. The plume created by a heated disk was simulated in a ventilated chamber. In the absence of stratification, all plume characteristics (radius, velocities, temperatures, drained flow rate) were studied in the fully developed flow zone and they compared positively with experimental data obtained on the INRS test bench. In the presence of stratification, numerical predictions of thermocline height were compared with measurements. Qualitative agreement is observed. The origin of inaccuracy is then discussed.
