Abstract

This article compares the performance of several explicit algebraic models for the turbulent heat flux. The first part gives some details about the models and results from validation runs on a channel flow and a Couette flow, while the next part shows results for a backward-facing step. The results reveal good performance for the near-wall-capable models in terms of heat transfer in the recirculation area of the backward-facing step. A comparison of the turbulent heat flux obtained with large-eddy simulation data also shows satisfactory results.

Financial support of this project by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) is greatly acknowledged. We also would like to thank Mrs. Labbé Mr. Sagaut, and Mr. Montreuil for providing the results of their LES calculations, and Mr. Debusschere for the results of the Couette flow DNS calculations.
