Abstract

The investigation of the thermodynamic efficacy of an infrared suppression system for ocean liners, battleships, and warships, is the focus of the current study. The governing equations are worked out using ANSYS Fluent 15.0. (Navier–Stokes equation, energy equation, and equation of turbulence). The outcomes are then utilized to create a more thorough and precise design methodology. Relevant factors can vary, including nozzle inlet temperature, inclination angle, nozzle overlapping, and Reynolds number (6.12×105 to  3.11×106). Various quantities of heat transfer and entropy production are taken into consideration, as well as the influence of different conical shape IRS systems (RLCF and ELCF) and various funnel wall conditions. The IRS system’s suggested design is verified by the entropy generation research, which also assists in evaluating which model is optimal. To clarify the thermo-fluid behavior, the Bejan number plots, the entropy generation contours, and both the thermal and frictional irreversibility are presented.
