Abstract
Two- and three-dimensional numerical simulations of mixed convection in a periodic channel with constant-temperature upper wall and uniform heating alternating with an insulated wall in the streamwise direction at the lower wall were carried out using a spectral technique, A stability diagram was created from the two-dimensional simulations. The local and spatially averaged Nusselt number was calculated at the upper and lower surfaces. Three-dimensional simulations were carried out, and some two-dimensional flows were found to be unstable to three-dimensional disturbances. In this case the Nusselt number is found to be higher than that predicted by two-dimensional simulation.
