How the South Helped Save the North When the Lights Went Out

Pages 87-93 | Published online: 22 Feb 2007

Abstract

This essay chronicles how the leadership of the Southern States Communication Association came to the aid of the Central States Communication Association in the mid- to late-1980s when the Central States organization faced a major financial crisis. Early and consistent support by the Southern leadership helped to craft a successful resolution to what was an unpleasant situational exigency.

Portions of this essay were presented at the April, 2006 Annual Convention of the Southern States Communication Association, Dallas, TX.

Notes

Other members of the Speech Communication Association's Executive Committee at the time were: William W. Work, Patti P. Gillespie, Beverly Whitaker Long, Roderick P. Hart, and Judith S. Trent.
