Daniel O'Connell and the language of confrontation

Abstract

Using the concept of “emic” criticism postulated by Edwin Black, this paper examines stylistic factors and theoretical implications in Daniel O'Connell's 1838 address on the commutation of tithes before the British House of Commons.
