Ethnomethodology: The promise of applied communication research?

Abstract

Since the New Orleans Conference of 1968, speech communication researchers have begun using innovative qualitative techniques. This essay presents a case for using ethnomethodology and participant observation as research tools in applied communication. An analogy to literary criticism is presented.
