High-speed Impact Deformation and Evaluation of Experimental Parameters

&
Pages 75-84 | Published online: 29 Oct 2010

Design and specifications of an impact compression and elongation apparatus are presented. A method for attaining higher strain rate is explained. An effort is made to minimize occurrence of low-speed deformation in a high-speed deformation experiment. Internal stress during high-speed impact compression is evaluated as a function of strain rate. Also, temperature rise during high-speed deformation is estimated.
