Oxidation of Alcohols with Benzyltriphenylphosphonium Peroxymonosulfate Under Non-Aqueous Conditions

Abstract

Oxidation of allylic and benzylic alcohols with benzyltriphenylphosphonium peroxymono-sulfate (PhCH₂Ph₃P⁺HSO₅ ⁻) 1 (BTPPMS) in refluxing acetonitrile is reported. The oxidation in the presence of a catalytic amount of bismuth chloride enhances the rate.
