Abstract
A series of novel higher-coordinate complexes of silicon(IV) X3Si{O-C6H4–2-[CH = N(C5H4N)]}(1–6) with coordination spheres consisting of substituents X = (OEt, Ph, Cl, and NCS) and bidentate Schiff base ligand HO-C6H4–2-[CH = N(C5H4N)] derived from 2-aminopyridine and salicyldehyde have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The spectral data showed that the Schiff base acted as a monobasic bidentate ligand via imine nitrogen and phenolic oxygen atoms. The thermal stability of complexes (1–6) was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The antibacterial activities of compounds (1–6) were screened against both Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae) and Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus).
