Abstract

In this communication, we illustrate a convenient and less hazardous route for the synthesis of good quality cadmium selenide nanoparticles by thermolysis of a novel single source precursor, CdCl2[Se{(CH2)2NH2}2] under nitrogen atmosphere at 330 °C. The synthesized nanomaterials have been characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscope, and scanning electron microscope. The X-ray diffraction peaks of synthesized CdSe nanocrystals revealed the uniqueness of Hexagonal (Wurtzite) CdSe with an average particle size of 76 nm. The electronic spectrum shows a wide energy band gap of 2.94 eV.
