Foreword for international conference on the organic chemistry of sulfur, ISOCS-28

I am pleased to present a collection of accepted papers from ISOCS-28 that represent an array of oral and plenary talks at the conference held in Tokyo, Japan from 26th – 31st August 2018. They were peer reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee and accepted by the Guest Editor.

Phosphorus Sulfur and Silicon and the Related Elements was delighted to engage with the Scientific and Organizing Committee under the skillful guidance of Conference Chair, Professor Kei Goto, from the Department of Chemistry at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, in presenting these 34 papers. They fit the themes of the conference including the synthesis of organic sulfur compounds and organosulfur-mediated synthesis, theoretical, mechanistic and stereochemical aspects of the organic chemistry of sulfur, bio-organic and medicinal sulfur chemistry, sulfur-containing advanced materials and nanotechnology, sulfur-containing heterocycles, sulfur-containing metal complexes and ecological aspects of organic sulfur compounds. You will note that our regular issues of the journal also feature topics such as these.

I would like to extend my warm thanks to the Scientific and Organizing Committees of ISOCS-28 especially the local organizing members, the guest editor Prof. Hideki Yorimitsu, and to our main-group chemistry colleague, Professor Goto. Taylor and Francis provided financial support for the meeting, and I am appreciative of the work of our Managing Editor, Kaleigh Sunday, who operationalizes the contracts with the conference planners, and our Production Editor, Jacqueline Carrick who provides great assistance in creating the final look of this special issue.

With my very best wishes,
