Abstract

The crystal structures of two different types of triphenyltelluronium compounds are described. Comparison is made concerning the difference in ligand behaviour of mono- and bidentate sulphur donor ligands. Crystals of Ph3TeS-C6H4-4-Cl are monoclinic (space group P21/c) with the following cell parameters: a=1484.4(9), b=1319.0(0), c=2164.1(0) pm, β=99.776(6)°, V=4175.87(5)×106 pm3, Z=8. Crystals of Ph3TeS2P(OEt)2 are monoclinic (P21/n) with cell parameters a=1163.7(8), b=1515.9(4), c=1468.8(4) pm, β=111.837(0)°, V=2405.42(5)×106 pm3, Z=4. The thiolate appears to be tetrameric in the solid state resulting in the formation of an eight membered ring system whereas the dithiophosphate complex is monomeric.
