α-Methylthiobenzylsulfones as Synthetic Intermediates Part VI. Syntheses of some Vinylic Sulfides and Sulfoxides

Abstract

The syntheses of some p-substituted isopropyl α-methylthiobenzylsulfones and their reaction with CCl₄KOH-t-BuOH to give the corresponding vinyl sulfides, as well as their oxidation to the corresponding sulfoxides, are described. Some aspects of the reactivity of the α-sulfenyl, α-sulfonyl benzylic carbanions are discussed.
