Abstract

To dissipate the thermal energy from the body of a work roll during its cyclic movement in the finishing stands of a hot strip mill (HSM) water jet cooling is used. The temperature profile of the work roll in each stand of six finishing stands of a HSM has been numerically simulated by a mathematical model. The effect of orientations of the jets, heat transfer coefficient at roll bite and slab entry temperature has been studied by this model, and their effect on roll temperature has been investigated. The change of angle has shown that the effect is minimal.
