Abstract

The present investigation is aimed to carry out a comparison between DP-GMAW and P-GMAW processes on mechanical and metallurgical properties of 2.0 mm thin AA6061 aluminum alloy sheet. The use of DP-GMAW has been found superior to the use of P-GMAW with respect to significant improvement in mechanical and metallurgical properties. The advantage of the weld characteristics with dual pulse in GMAW process is primarily due to the combined effect of pulsed current and thermal pulsation.

Notes

AA6061–T6 alloy contains magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements and due to the precipitation of Mg2Si phase it attains superior mechanical properties.
