Editorial

At the inception of the journal, over 25 years ago, I had the honor of editing the journal jointly with Michael J. Smith, my longtime close colleague and friend. Subsequently, I was most delighted to edit the journal with Kay M. Stanney, for whom I had the honor of being her major professor for both her MSc and PhD degrees. During the last 10 years, I was most pleased to have had the opportunity to edit the journal jointly with Julie A. Jacko, for whom I had the honor of being her major professor for her PhD degree. For the diligent work of Mike, Kay, and Julie as editors of the journal, my sincere thanks and appreciation goes to all of them.

As of the 1st of January 2016, I am most pleased and delighted to welcome Constantine Stephanidis as the editor of the journal, which I will continue to edit jointly with him. Constantine and I are close colleagues and have been friends for the past 25 years, which makes this joint editorship a very special situation for me.

Regarding the journal’s planned activities, I am most pleased to share with you the following:

  • We are very much interested in receiving proposals for a comprehensive paper on the review and appraisal, which ideally covers the theory, tools, methods, and case studies on important subject matter for the human–computer interaction field. These papers should be about three or more times longer than the length of a typical journal paper. This type of paper is usually very highly cited.

  • We are also very much interested in receiving proposals for special issues, which are of great interest to the human–computer interaction community.

  • We are working very diligently with the journal’s Editorial Advisory Board and the ad hoc reviewers to further reduce the reviewing time.
