Abstract
Since its creation, Neutron News (NN) was the instrument of a qualitative transformation of the neutron community, from a heterogeneous assembly of loosely interacting groups, à la “condensed-matter,” to a more unified global entity, such as those in high-energy- or astro-physics. Although this transformation is still incomplete, the past 20 years were marked by significant progress. This process affected the way research is carried out, ideas are exchanged, instruments are built and facilities are upgraded. But, as with any “globalization,” the greatest impact is on the individuals involved. Here are the personal perspectives of two “younger” neutron scatterers who got caught in this whirlwind early in their careers.
