ABSTRACT
To aid potential authors, this statement is an overview of the core values and editorial goals of the current editorial leadership of Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation. The key pillars are that we value research that (a) supports culturally responsive practice and social justice, (b) reflects varied research methodologies and traditions, (c) originates and investigates consultation topics across multiple professional disciplines, and (d) reflects global practice.
Today’s researcher is faced with a dizzying array of publication options. Conducting high-quality research and converting this work into outstanding manuscripts is very challenging and is not to be taken lightly. Not only does content quality matter, but also whether the manuscript fits with a journal’s editorial priorities. Selecting a journal that does not value your work can lead to unnecessary setbacks and discouragement.
Some journals have well-established content and philosophical traditions that can be easily deduced. In other cases, the fit between one’s work and the journal’s editorial values is less clear, particularly when one is conducting work that might cut against the grain and/or reflects nondominant methodologies. While we hope that our values and priorities are clear, one can never be sure. It is in this spirit that we offer this reaffirmation of our vision for Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation (JEPC). The cornerstone of JEPC’s mission is to be a source for a wide range of cutting-edge articles that provide insight into consultation research and practice. Within this framework, we highlight the following:
We value research that supports culturally responsive practice and social justice.
We value research from all methodologies and traditions.
We value research from all professional disciplines.
We value research from all corners of the globe.
We strive for JEPC to continue be a safe place for research that reflects cultural diversity and social justice praxis. In support for all children and families, JEPC values inclusivity, respect for all persons, and the enrichment that emerges from cross-cultural interactions. We value research from all disciplines that provides both social critique and potential remedies to support justice.
At present, the acceptance rate for unsolicited manuscripts to JEPC is approximately 30%. While we can never guarantee that any particular manuscript will be accepted, we are committed for JEPC to be a safe space for authors in that all editorial decisions will be based solely on our best assessment of the overall quality and rigor of the work. Our typical turn-around time is three months.
Research is inherently a revolutionary act, a proclamation that the current state of knowledge is inadequate. We strive to publish transformative research that both reflects and has the potential to shape the realities in which consultation is practiced. Please join us by submitting your cutting-edge research to JEPC.
