Abstract

The chemical composition by gas chromatography mass spectroscopy analysis and antibacterial property of Barleria lupulina essential oil were performed. The main components of the essential oil included cyclobutane,1,1-dimethyl- 2-octyl, 2-Hexyl-1-octanol, 1, 2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono(2-ethylhexyl) ester and 1-hentetracontanol. B. lupulina essential oil exhibited activity against Bacillus pumilus and Staphylococcus aureus, but was inactive against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Streptococcus pyogenes. The significant antibacterial activity of B. lupulina essential oil suggests that it may serve as a source for antibacterial compounds with possible therapeutic potential.
