As I write this introduction to a special double issue of JAFI, it is May. Summer will soon be upon us and, with it, all the quintessential activities: swimming, baseball, gardening, farmers' markets, and—my favorite—the county fair! In tribute to this enduring agricultural tradition, the Society of the Quarter column profiles the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE), a nonprofit organization representing the interests of over 1,100 fairs worldwide. Through education, information, advocacy, and networking, the IAFE is helping to ensure that the county fair survives and thrives in a changing agricultural landscape.

Refereed contributions include several studies focused on issues relating to food quality and safety and the role of information and/or influence of the media in shaping public perceptions and attitudes, whether concerning acceptance of agricultural biotechnology in Ghana, organic products in Iran, packaged milk in Nigeria, or food risk in South Korea. Effective dissemination of information is also critical to the knowledge transfer process: two studies assess the potential of radio broadcasts and entertainment media as communication strategies in southwest Nigeria. Next, a team of Nigerian researchers shares the results of their investigation of beekeeping practices and the implications for honey production, as well as extension training and outreach. Lastly, we probe the perennial appeal of ham and the contemporary issues surrounding its production, processing, and consumption. The issue concludes with the Book and Internet Reviews section. Enjoy!
