Growth in sense of self and sense of others predicts reduction in interpersonal problems in short-term dynamic but not in cognitive therapy

Abstract

Objectives: We investigated relationships between sense of self (SoS) and sense of others (SoO) and specific interpersonal problems in short-term dynamic and cognitive therapy. Method: 40 patients with Cluster C personality disorders from a RCT were included. The Achievement of Therapeutic Objective Scales (ATOS) was used to perform ratings of videotaped sessions. The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex version was used as the outcome measure. Results: There were significant relationships between growth in SoS and SoO and reductions of hostile-dominant and hostile-submissive behaviors, as well as cold, social-avoidant and vindictive behaviors. Increase in SoO was also related to reductions in non-assertive and domineering behaviors. However, the results were only present in the STDP treatment group.

Ziele: Wir haben die Beziehungen zwischen der Selbstwahrnehmung (SoS), der Wahrnehmung von Anderen (SoO) und spezieller interpersonaler Probleme in dynamischer und kognitiver Kurzzeittherapie untersucht. Methode: 40 Patienten mit Cluster C Persönlichkeitsstörungen von einer randomisiert kontrollierten Studie (RCT) wurden einbezogen. Die „Achievement of Therapeutic Objective“ Skala (ATOS) wurde genutzt, um Bewertungen von auf Video aufgezeichneten Sitzungen durchzuführen. Die „Invetory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex“ Version wurde als Ergebnismessinstrument genutzt. Ergebnisse: Es zeigten sich signifikante Beziehungen zwischen dem Anstieg der Selbstwahrnehmung und der Wahrnehmung von Anderen, und zwischen der Reduktion feindlich-dominanter und feindlich-unterwürfiger Verhaltensweisen, und auch zwischen kalten, sozial-vermeidenden und rachsüchtigen Verhaltensweisen. Der Anstieg der SoS war ebenfalls verbunden mit der Reduktion von nicht durchsetzungsfähigen und tyrannischen Verhaltensweisen. Jedoch zeigten sich die Ergebnisse nur in der STDP Behandlungsgruppe.

目的：本研究探討短期動力治療以及認知治療中，自體感(SoS)、他體感(SoO)以及人際問題之間的關聯。方法：40位隨機取樣的Ｃ型人格患者參與本研究。。以治療目標達成量表（ATOS）對錄影帶內容進行評分，同時使用人際問題量表進行成效評估。結果：自體感與他體感的增進與敵意－支配、敵意－服從、冷漠、社會－逃避及報復行為減少之間有顯著相關。他體感的增加與非獨斷與支配行為的降低有關聯。不過本研究結果只呈現在短期動力治療（STDP）處遇團體中。

Obiettivi: Abbiamo studiato le relazioni tra il senso di sé (SoS) e il senso degli altri (SoO) e specifici problemi interpersonali nella terapia dinamica breve e in quella cognitiva. Metodo: sono stati considerati 40 pazienti con disturbi di personalità del cluster C di uno studio RCT. E’ stata utilizzata la Achievement of Therapeutic Objective Scales (ATOS) per valutare sedute videoregistrate. E’ stato usato l'Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex come misura di esito. Risultati: sono state osservate relazioni significative tra crescita del SoS e SoO e la riduzione di comportamenti ostili-dominanti e ostili-sottomessi, così come di comportamenti freddi, socio-evitanti e vendicativi. L'aumento del SoO è stato anche correlato alla riduzione dei comportamenti non-assertivi e dominanti. Tuttavia, i risultati erano presenti solo nel gruppo di trattamento STDP.

Objectivos: Investigámos as relações entre o sentido de self (SoS) e o sentido dos outros (SoO) e os problemas interpessoais específicos em terapias dinâmica breve e cognitiva. Método: foram incluídos 40 pacientes com perturbações de Personalidade da categoria C de um estudo clínico randomizado (RCT). A Escala de realização de objectivos terapêuticos (ATOS) foi usada para para avaliar sessões gravadas em video. A versão Circumplexa do Inventário de Problemas Interpessoais foi usada como medida de resultado. Resultados: Verificaram-se relações significativas entre um aumento na SoS e na SoO e redução de comportamentos hostis-dominantes e hostis-submissivos, bem como de comportamentos sociais-evitantes e defensivos. O aumento na SoO também se mostrou relacionado com uma redução ao nível dos comportamentos não-assertivos e dominadores. Contudo, estes resultados apenas se verificaram no grupo de tratamento da terapia dinâmica breve.
