Feedback to semi-professional counselors in treating child aggression

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the impact of outcome feedback provided to semi-professional counselors of children and adolescents at risk for aggressive behavior, following group treatment. Method: Participants included 230 aggressive children and adolescents and 64 educators in a quasi-experimental design of 3 conditions: experimental group with feedback, experimental group without feedback, and control group (no treatment). The current study employed a feedback system based on self-report aggression scores measured after each session, provided to teachers, including an alert system and weekly follow-up group support. Results: Outcomes were more favorable for the treatment children than the control group, but feedback had no impact on the results. Conclusion: Outcome feedback provided to group therapists does not have an effect on children and adolescents' reduction of aggression. Further research is needed to identify possible reasons for failure to show feedback effect.

Objetivo: Investigar o impacto do feedback dos resultados fornecidos aos conselheiros de nível técnico de crianças e adolescentes em risco de comportamento agressivo, após tratamento em grupo. Método: Os participantes foram 230 crianças e adolescentes agressivos e 64 educadores em um desenho quasi-experimental com três condições: grupo experimental com feedback, grupo experimental sem feedback e grupo controle (sem tratamento algum). O presente estudo empregou um sistema de feedback baseado nas pontuações de auto-relato das agressões avaliadas após cada sessão. Essas pontuações foram fornecidas aos professores, o que incluiu um sistema de alerta e um grupo de apoio para acompanhamento semanal. Resultados: Os resultados foram mais favoráveis para as crianças que receberam o tratamento do que para o grupo controle, mas o feedback não teve impacto nos resultados. Conclusão: O feedback fornecido aos terapeutas de grupo não tem efeito sobre a redução da agressividade nas crianças e adolescentes. Pesquisas adicionais são necessárias para identificar as razões possíveis da ausência de efeito do feedback.

Ziel: Die Untersuchung der Effekte einer Ergebnisrückmeldung an semiprofessionelle Berater im Rahmen einer Gruppenbehandlung von Kindern und Jugendlichen mit einem erhöhten Risiko für aggressives Verhalten. Methode: Die Teilnehmer umfassten 230 aggressive Kinder und Jugendliche sowie 64 Pädagogen in einem quasi-experimentellen Design mit drei Bedingungen: Experimentalgruppe mit Rückmeldung, Experimentalgruppe ohne Rückmeldung und Kontrollgruppe (keine Behandlung). Die aktuelle Studie setzte ein Rückmeldungssystem ein, welches auf Selbstauskünften bezüglich der Aggressivität, erhoben nach jeder Sitzung, basierte, den Lehrern zur Verfügung gestellt wurde, und ein Warnungssystem sowie eine wöchentliche Follow-up Gruppensupervision beinhaltete. Ergebnisse: Die Ergebnisse waren günstiger für die behandelten Kinder im Vergleich zur Kontrollgruppe, allerdings zeigte die Ergebnisrückmeldung keine Effekte. Schlussfolgerung: Die Rückmeldung von Ergebnissen an Gruppentherapeuten hat keinen Einfluss auf die Reduktion von Aggressivität bei Kindern und Jugendlichen. Weitere Forschung ist notwendig, um mögliche Gründe zu identifizieren, weshalb keine Rückmeldungseffekte gezeigt werden konnten.

目的: 探討對潛在有攻擊行為之兒童與青少年進行團體處遇後，提供半專業諮商員效果回饋之影響。方法: 參與者為 230位具攻擊性之兒童與青少年、64位教育人員，以準實驗設計進行，共有「有回饋之實驗組」、「無回饋之實驗組」與控制組（未處遇）等三種狀況。本研究採取的回饋系統以每次團體後測得之自陳式攻擊分數為基礎，將分數提供給老師，同時並有預警系統及每週追蹤式團體支持。結果: 處置組兒童的效果優於控制組，但回饋對結果並無影響。結論: 對團體治療師提供效果回饋，在降低兒童與青少年之攻擊性上並無影響，尚需進一步研究探討回饋效果未顯現的原因。

Abstract

Obiettivo: Indagare l'impatto del feedback sull'esito fornito ai consulenti semiprofessionali di bambini e adolescenti a rischio di comportamento aggressivo, che effettuano una terapia di gruppo. Metodo: I partecipanti, 230 bambini e adolescenti aggressivi e 64 educatori, sono stati inclusi in un progetto di ricerca quasi sperimentale a 3 condizioni: gruppo sperimentale con feedback, gruppo sperimentale senza feedback e gruppo di controllo (senza trattamento). Questo studio ha utilizzato un sistema di feedback basato sui punteggi di aggressività di auto-riferita misurata dopo ogni seduta, fornita agli insegnanti, tra cui un sistema di allarme e supporto al gruppo con follow up settimanali. Risultati: gli esiti sono stati più favorevoli per i bambini in trattamento rispetto al gruppo di controllo, ma i feedback non hanno avuto alcun impatto sui risultati. Conclusione: i feedback sull'esito dati al gruppo dei terapeuti non hanno alcun effetto sulla riduzione dell'aggressività dei bambini e degli adolescenti. Sono necessarie ulteriori ricerche per individuare i possibili motivi del fallimento dei feedback.
