The short Working Alliance Inventory in parent training: Factor structure and longitudinal invariance

Abstract

Objective: The purposes of the present study were twofold: (a) to examine the factor structure of the Working Alliance Inventory, Short (WAI-S) and (b) to investigate if factor loadings and thresholds fulfilled properties of longitudinal measurement invariance across two waves of data. Method: The study sample consisted of 259 Norwegian parents receiving Parent Management Training, the Oregon model. Parents rated alliance at sessions 3 and 12 during the therapy. Confirmatory factor analyses to assess the fit of a one-, two-, and three-factor model were performed using robust weighted least squares estimation for categorical indicators. Results: The results showed that data provided best fit for the three-factor solution with goal, task, and bond. Furthermore, results demonstrated satisfactory invariance for factor loadings and thresholds across time. Conclusions: Overall, the results indicate that the WAI-S three-factor solution has acceptable psychometric properties for longitudinal measurement comparisons.

Obiettivo: Scopi di questo studio sono: (a) valutare la struttura fattoriale della Working Alliance Inventory, breve (WAI-S) e (b) indagare se i pesi fattoriali e i limiti soddisfano le proprietà di invarianza misurate longitudinalmente in due serie di dati. Metodo: Il campione dello studio era costituito da 259 genitori norvegesi sottoposti a Parent Training Management, secondo il modello Oregon. I genitori hanno valutato l'alleanza nelle sedute 3 e 12 nel corso della terapia. Sono state effettuate analisi fattoriali di conferma per valutare la forma di un modello a uno-, due- e tre- fattori utilizzando una stima dei quadrati minimi ponderati per gli indicatori categoriali. Risultati: I risultati hanno mostrato che i dati erano a favore per una soluzione a tre fattori rappresentati da obiettivo, compito e legame. Inoltre, i risultati hanno dimostrato un'invarianza soddisfacente nel tempo per i pesi fattoriali e i limiti. Conclusioni: Nel complesso, i risultati indicano che la soluzione a tre fattori della WAI-S ha accettabili proprietà psicometriche nei confronti valutati longitudinalmente.

Objetivo: Os objetivos do presente estudo foram os dois seguintes: (a) analisar a estrutura de fator do Inventário da Aliança Terapêutica, Versão Reduzida (IAT-R) e (b) investigar se as cargas fatoriais e os limites preencheram propriedades de invariância de medidas longitudinais ao longo de dois conjuntos de dados. Método: A amostra do estudo consistiu em 269 pais Noruegueses a receber Treino de Gestão Parental, segundo o modelo de Oregon. Os pais avaliaram a aliança às sessões 3 e 12, durante a terapia. Foi realizada uma análise fatorial confirmatória para avaliar o ajustamento do modelo de um, dois e três fatores, utilizando uma estimativa robusta dos mínimos quadrados ponderados para os indicadores categoriais. Resultados: Os resultados mostraram que os dados garantiram um melhor ajustamento para a solução de três fatores com os objetivos, as tarefas e o vínculo. Para além disso, os resultados demonstraram uma invariância satisfatória para as cargas fatoriais e limites ao longo do tempo. Conclusões: De um modo geral, os resultados indicam que a solução de três fatores do IAT-R tem propriedades psicométricas aceitáveis para a comparação de medidas longitudinais.

Ziel: Die Ziele der aktuellen Studie waren zweifältig: (a) die Faktorstruktur des Working Alliance Inventory, Short (WAI-S) zu untersuchen und (b) zu untersuchen, ob Faktorladungen und Schwellenwerte die Eigenschaften einer längsschnittlichen Messinvarianz über zwei Messzeitpunkte hinweg erfüllen. Methode: Die Stichprobe der Studie umfasste 259 norwegische Eltern, welche ein Eltern Management Training nach dem Oregon-Modell erhielten. Die Eltern beurteilten die Allianz während der Therapie zu Sitzung 3 und 12. Konfirmatorische Faktorenanalysen wurden durchgeführt unter Verwendung einer Schätzung mit robusten gewichteten kleinsten Quadraten für kategoriale Indikatoren, um den Fit von Ein-, Zwei- und Drei-Faktor-Modellen zu beurteilen. Ergebnisse: Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die Daten den besten Fit für das Drei-Faktor-Modell mit Ziel, Aufgabe und Bindung lieferten. Darüber hinaus zeigten die Ergebnisse über die Zeit hinweg eine zufriedenstellende Invarianz für Faktorladungen und Schwellenwerten. Schlussfolgerungen: Insgesamt weisen die Ergebnisse darauf hin, dass die Drei-Faktoren-Lösung des WAI-S akzeptable psychometrische Eigenschaften für Vergleiche längsschnittlicher Messungen aufweist.

目的：本研究的目的有二個：(a) 檢視簡式工作同盟量表的因素結構，及 (b)運用二波資料探討在縱貫評量中，因素負荷及敏感度是否具恆等性。方法：本研究的樣本為接受奧勒崗模式之親職管理訓練的259位挪威父母，請父母在第3 次及第12次治療時，評量同盟的情形。。運用類別指標的最大加權最小平方估算，來進行模式適用1, 2及3因素的驗證性因素分析。結果：結果顯示資料支持最適合以目標、任務及連結之三因素解釋。此外，結果也呈現不同時期的因素負荷量及敏感度都有令人滿意的恆等性。結論：整體而言，本研究結果指出，WAI-S的三因素結構在縱貫評量的比較下，具有不錯的心理計量特性。
