Complexities in Communication and Collaboration in the Hurricane Warning System

In the article, “Complexities in Communication and Collaboration in the Hurricane Warning System,” by Kathryn E. Anthony, Kelley R. Cowden-Hodgson, H. Dan O'Hair, Robert L. Heath, & Gina M. Eosco, which appeared in Communication Studies 65(5) on pages 468–483, the following errors were reported as appearing in the text:

A misspelling occurred in the first author's name for a citation on p. 470. It should have read:

Lazrus, Morrow, Morss, & Lazo, 2012.

The corresponding reference should have read:

Lazrus, H., Morrow, B. H., Morss, R. E., & Lazo, J. K. (2012). Vulnerability beyond stereotypes: Context and agency in hurricane risk communication. Weather, Climate, and Society, 4(2), 103–109.

In addition, the authors would like to acknowledge a citation that they had failed to mention in their piece:

Demuth, J. L., Morss, R. E., Morrow, B. H., & Lazo, J. K. (2012). Creation and communication of hurricane risk information. Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 93(8), 1133–1145.

This reference should have appeared on page 470 after the line “Thus, in order to enhance the possibility of an optimal response to a disaster, effective collaboration and communication with interorganizational partners is of the utmost importance.”

The authors would like to especially recognize the work of Rebecca Morss, Julie Demuth, Jeffrey Lazo, and Betty Morrow. These scholars contributed significantly to the design and implementation of our project, and their ideas helped frame the results of this paper. Their contributions are greatly appreciated. Their complementary paper examining hurricane warning system communication, based on parallel interviews with National Weather Service forecasters, emergency managers, and broadcast meteorologists in the Miami area, can be found here:

Demuth, J. L., Morss, R. E., Morrow, B. H., & Lazo, J. K. (2012). Creation and communication of hurricane risk information. Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 93(8), 1133–1145.
